Almost a decade after former Flames and Mighty Wanderers striker Albert Mpinganjira quit active football, his last-born son Albert Junior has come of age to play for the TNM Super League outfit after being promoted from the junior side.

At 16, the attacking midfielder is already an Under-17 national team material and has appetite for fabulous dribbles that humiliate defenders.

Wanderers’ general secretary David Kanyenda confirmed to Nation on Sunday during the week that the younger brother to the team’s striker, Victor, will now be featured in their forthcoming games, including Standard Bank Knockout Trophy and the second round of the TNM Super League.

“Indeed, Albert Junior has been roped into our main team. The boy is a versatile player, comfortable as an attacking midfielder-cum-striker.

“Since time immemorial, Nyerere have promoted budding stars from the reserve side and Albert Junior is one of such brilliant stars,” Kanyenda said.

However, Kanyenda denied rumours that Victor Mpinganjira is leaving for Carlsberg Cup champions Kamuzu Barracks, saying none of their players will join a military side.

Albert Junior, who has adopted his father’s nickname ‘Kika,’ is also one of the few promising stars that make the Surestream Football Academy’s Under-17 squad.

The player’s promotion comes barely a week after the Nomads signed Joseph Kamwendo’s younger brother, Abraham, from Blantyre United.

Abraham has joined his brother Felix at the Lali Lubani Road.
